Hi all,
Is there any way to manually add support for an unrecognised login window?
More specifically, I want to make the digitalpersona software recognise my LastPass login.

Thanks <3

I don't think so. The DP software is long dead. It's only good to log on to Windows. Most common web browsers won't work with the DP's plugin. Maybe Internet Explorer still works with it, but I don't recommend to use it. It's full of security holes...

Does anyone else have this problem?

Right, in Windows 8.1 driver is not able to revive the FR probably due to the way it wakes the device!

Anyway built a very simple solution for this problem:

1- Download the devcon utility depending if you are in 32 ou 64 bits version and save it to a system location (root of a drive, or system32):

32 bits: https://sites.google.com/site/sadelphin/cabinet/32.rar
64 bits: https://sites.google.com/site/sadelphin/cabinet/64.rar

2- Write a cmd batch similar to this one where VID and PID can be located for your FR model in device manager, details of the FingerPrint. Should be 045E and 00BD

Code: Select all

@echo off
c:\devcon.exe disable "USB\VID_045E&PID_00BD"
c:\devcon.exe enable "USB\VID_045E&PID_00BD"
exit

Basically this script disables and enables again the FR in device manager.

3- Go to System event viewer and search for Kernel-General event ID-1: Change Reason: System time synchronized with the hardware clock. This is an event triggered just after a wake from sleep.

4- Right click on event and select "Attach task to this Event". Follow the wizard and choose start a program as action and select you cmd batch from 2.

5- Select "Open properties dialog box after Finish" and select at the bottom of the general tab "Run Whether user is loged in" and "Run with highest privilege"

6- Save and provide administrator credentials to run this task.

That's it, try a sleep and see how the FR is enbled after wake.

I have installed the Fingerprint Reader under Windows 10 and it works. I'm so happy. Thank you CodeBender.

But I can't solve the problem with sleep. When I only start the batch, it does not start the fingerprint rader. I also added it in the event viewer, it doesn't help. Does this troubleshooting with devcon also work on Windows 10?

Thank you

Do you start Devcon with admin rights? You must use the utility with local admin rights, or it won't work. And does you device's hardware ID match the IDs of the device that you are trying to enable/disable?

Yes, I also tried to manually start the batch file (to exclude event viewer errors) with admin rights and nothing happens. After a operating system restart with fingerprint switched on correctly, I only tried to start the batch with the disable line to see if this works, but it doesn't deactive the fingerprint reader.

Yes, the device's hardware ID in the batch file matches the IDs of the fingerprint reader.
device manager fingerprint treader.gif

here's the code of my batch file:

@echo off
C:\Program Files\DigitalPersona\64\devcon.exe disable "USB\VID_045E&PID_00BD"
C:\Program Files\DigitalPersona\64\devcon.exe enable "USB\VID_045E&PID_00BD"
exit

do I have the correct file name and extension? "batch.cmd"

thank you very much

Is the Devcon utility physically present in the folder specified in the batch sctipt?

If your Windows 10 has PowerShell installed and set as the default scripting app (the original cmd.exe is no longer used), then this batch file may not work correctly. I would recommend to make the original cmd.exe utility run the batch files. Also I would advise to rename your script to "batch.bat". The problem with Windows 10 is that some of the older software and tricks won't work no matter how hard you try...

There's the utility that enables or disables the fingerprint reader: viewtopic.php?f=49&t=8653&p=59548&hilit=fingerprintreadercontrol#p59548
Does it work for you?

I have just rebuilt my PC to the latest version of Windows 10(1909). Everything works as it did under Windows 7.

This command works miracles during the driver installation:

bcdedit.exe /set nointegritychecks on

I have given up on sleep a long time ago on my desktop with FR. I also disable hibernation that is used by Windows to give you those lightning fast boots. Many older devices and software don't like being copied in and out of memory. I invested instead on an SSD, a fast CPU and a little more patience at boot time ;O . I think it is a reasonable compromise to keep on using the older devices.

:good: to a very workable solution.

P.S. There are plenty of Windows Hello compatible device on ebay for around $20... but i would miss the nice warm red glow

As you can see from the above part of the log, the hashes of the core DP software's files don't match to the ones that they are supposed to be. So, you did not copy the patched files as instructed in the documentation. Please read the instructions and follow them to the letter. After you copy the patched files over the original ones and restart your system, the fingerprint reader should start working.
